The artist may print his/her own work or engage a printer and publisher. The collector may be an individual, dealer, or museum. Over time prints may change due to an array of factors. If the change compromises the integrity of the print, the conservator’s knowledge and skills are key to stabilizing and preserving the art. Conservation requires knowledge of both art and science.
We are fortunate that Harriet Stratis, technical art historian and paper conservator, spoke about these changes and demonstrated her process on March 23rd, 2021 at 5:30 PM EST. The video of this event can be viewed here.
Members were encouraged to send images of prints in their collections illustrating change before the event. If you have questions about art conservation of your own collection, inquire at info@printclubofnewyork.org.
